Sixteen officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria are set to face military justice following their arrest over acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations, according to a statement released by signed Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information,Defence Headquarters on Saturday.
The officers were apprehended during a routine military exercise, with investigations revealing that many of them had expressed grievances over perceived career stagnation primarily attributed to repeated failures in promotion examinations and related issues.
Director of Defence Information, disclosed in the statement that some of the officers were already under military jurisdiction, either awaiting or undergoing trial for various offences. Their conduct, he said, was found to be inconsistent with the standards of military service.
“Upon completion of investigations, the indicted officers will face the full military disciplinary process in accordance with established procedures,” the statement read. “This is part of ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and preserve professionalism within the Armed Forces.”
The Defence Headquarters emphasized that the disciplinary action is strictly internal and routine, aimed at reinforcing military discipline, order, and loyalty.
“The Armed Forces will not tolerate behaviour that undermines the integrity of the institution or threatens its constitutional role under democratic authority,” the statement added.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria reiterated its full commitment to its constitutional duties and pledged to maintain professionalism at all levels.
