In a decisive move to enhance the safety and welfare of Nigerian pilgrims, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has inaugurated a 21-member Central Security Committee (CSC) ahead of the 2025 Hajj operations.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Monday in Abuja, was presided over by NAHCON Chairman/CEO, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman. He charged the committee members to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, sincerity, and fear of Allah, stressing that their duty is crucial to the spiritual journey of thousands of Nigerians.
“Try your best to do your best in taking care of the Nigerian pilgrims,” he admonished, praying for divine guidance and expressing optimism about the committee’s performance.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Policy, Personnel Management, Research, Statistics, Information and Library Services (PRSILS), Prof. Abubakar Abubakar Yagawal, reminded the members of the strategic importance of their task. He emphasized the need for professionalism and excellence in protecting pilgrims and upholding Nigeria’s international image.
NAHCON Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Mustapha Ali, read out the committee’s terms of reference, which include:
1. Gathering intelligence on the activities of pilgrims and officials of State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards/Agencies/Commissions (SMPWB/A/C) to prevent illicit acts such as drug trafficking, human smuggling, money laundering, and contraband trade.
2. Detecting and reporting corrupt practices at Hajj camps and departure points.
3. Collaborating proactively with security agencies to prevent security breaches.
4. Conducting periodic surveys on key welfare services including feeding, accommodation, transportation, and BTA disbursement to ensure compliance with 2025 Hajj guidelines.
5. Submitting regular situation reports (SITREPs) and a final post-operation report.
6. Addressing any emerging issues that affect the safety and welfare of pilgrims.
In his closing remarks, the CSC Chairman, Ambassador Ahmad Muhammad Mungono, pledged the committee’s full commitment to its mandate. He assured that only credible individuals have been selected and that the committee would work closely with all stakeholders to safeguard the integrity of the Hajj process.
The inauguration of the Central Security Committee underscored NAHCON’s unwavering commitment to a safe, secure, and corruption-free Hajj for all Nigerian pilgrims.
