The Customs Area Controller of Apapa Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, has declared a renewed crackdown on cargo delays, revenue leakages, and operational inefficiencies at Nigeria’s busiest seaport, charging officers to uphold discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking during the Command’s monthly parade in Lagos, Oshoba warned that unnecessary delays in cargo clearance, particularly at exit points, would no longer be tolerated, stressing that efficient service delivery remains critical to sustaining the credibility of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
He directed officers and men of the Command to intensify efforts at port terminals to block all forms of revenue leakages while ensuring that legitimate trade is facilitated without bottlenecks.
According to him, officers must adopt proactive measures that align with the reform agenda of the Service and contribute to improved operational efficiency at the port.
The Apapa Customs boss also stressed the need for professionalism and transparency in dealing with stakeholders, urging personnel to remain accessible, service-driven, and accountable at all times.
He warned that any conduct capable of tarnishing the image of the Service would attract strict disciplinary action, adding that discipline and proper conduct must remain the hallmark of officers operating at the Command.
Oshoba further called for heightened vigilance against smuggling activities, especially the trafficking of illicit drugs and other prohibited items through the port.
He equally reminded officers of the importance of maintaining proper dress codes and adhering strictly to operational ethics and standards expected within the Service.
In a bid to motivate personnel and encourage outstanding performance, the Command recognised exceptional officers and operational units for exemplary service and dedication to duty.
Assistant Comptroller Ismail Mohammed emerged as the Most Outstanding Officer of the Month, while several other officers received commendations for professionalism, innovation, punctuality, and commitment to duty.
Operational units at APM Terminal and ECO SUPPORT Terminal were also honoured for excellence in enforcement and revenue generation respectively.
Oshoba noted that the award initiative was designed to encourage healthy competition, reward diligence, and strengthen accountability among officers and men of the Command.
The renewed performance-driven approach at the Apapa Command signals the Nigeria Customs Service’s determination to strengthen enforcement, improve revenue generation, and facilitate seamless trade in line with global best practices and Nigeria’s economic development goals.
