The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, over his remarks suggesting that politicians defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC were motivated by “stomach infrastructure” rather than conscience.
In a strongly worded statement on Saturday, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described Tambuwal as a “notorious and vainglorious party defector” who lacked the moral standing to question others for switching parties. The statement accused Tambuwal of frequently changing political affiliations, moving between the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), the Democratic People’s Party (DPP), the PDP, and the APC before returning to the PDP in 2018.
“By his assertions, Tambuwal’s itinerant defections were in chase of ‘stomach infrastructure,’ purely self-serving and without any conscience,A wandering politician like Tambuwal lacks the moral turpitude to comment on the intentions of politicians who have defected from a crisis-ridden PDP to our great party”Morka said.
The APC maintained that recent defections from the PDP stem from the opposition party’s internal crisis and the strong economic reforms under President Bola Tinubu.
The statement highlighted several achievements, including Nigeria surpassing its Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) quota of 1.5 million barrels per day, increased foreign direct investments, a high-performing stock market, and improved foreign reserves.
Morka further called on Tambuwal and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to accept responsibility for the PDP’s decline, urged them to “apologize to their members and maintain a humble and penitent disposition.”
