Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following her appointment as the substantive head of the Ministry.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by Magnus Eze, Special Assistant on Communication and New Media to the Minister. Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who until her elevation served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs since November 4, 2024, conveyed her appreciation during a dinner organised by the Ministry to mark the conclusion of a three-day induction programme for Ambassadors-Designate, High Commissioners-Designate, and their spouses.
The announcement of her appointment came during the event, effectively making it her first official engagement in her new capacity. Addressing members of the diplomatic corps and other dignitaries, the Minister thanked President Tinubu for entrusting her with the responsibility, describing the appointment as a call to greater service. She urged the newly designated envoys, alongside staff and management of the Ministry, to work collaboratively towards enhancing Nigeria’s global image and safeguarding national interests.
In a statement shared on her X (formerly Twitter) handle, Odumegwu-Ojukwu reaffirmed her commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives. She noted that her focus would be on strengthening the country’s 4D Foreign Policy priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda, promoting citizen diplomacy, and projecting Nigeria’s interests on the global stage.
