The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, has commended the courage, sacrifice, and professionalism of troops across all theatres for their outstanding performance during April 2026 operations.
This was contained in a statement presented by the Director, Defence Media Operations (DMO), Major General Michael Onoja, during the monthly press briefing at the Defence Headquarters on Thursday.
General Oluyede praised the troops for maintaining relentless operational momentum while upholding discipline and compassion for civilians. He noted that the AFN recorded significant successes, including the neutralisation of 201 terrorists, rescue of 188 abducted civilians, and the arrest of 284 suspects in April.
The CDS, however, paid solemn tribute to gallant officers and soldiers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty. He specifically honoured Brigadier General O.O. Braimah, who was killed alongside two other officers and two soldiers in an engagement at Benisheikh, Kaga LGA of Borno State on 9 April 2026. General Oluyede also recognised the sacrifices of Colonel I.A. Mohammed and his troops in Monguno.
“The AFN pauses with solemn reverence to honour these gallant Nigerians who stood between danger and the rest of the nation,” Maj. Gen. Onoja quoted the CDS as saying.
General Oluyede assured bereaved families that their loved ones did not die in vain and pledged that their sacrifice would be honoured through the continued pursuit of peace and security. He further assured all Nigerians that no community is unimportant and that no terrorist or criminal organisation is beyond the reach of the Armed Forces, regardless of their resources or ambitions.
The Chief of Defence Staff directed Theatre Commanders to sustain operational tempo while ensuring strict compliance with the Rules of Engagement and International Humanitarian Law. He also charged them to deepen Civil-Military Cooperation as a critical component of military strategy.
Maj. Gen. Onoja called on the public to support the military with timely intelligence and urged the media to continue responsible reporting in support of national security objectives.
The AFN reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the nation and restoring lasting peace across all parts of the country.
