The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has commended the Nigeria Police for arresting Fauziya Gidado, a woman accused of torturing and brutalizing her 14-year-old house help, Bashariya.
According to MURIC, Fauziya was arrested on Friday, June 13, 2025, at her Sokoto home and transferred to the Nigerian Police Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.
The organization praised the police for their prompt action, saying it demonstrated a high standard of professionalism.
MURIC had previously demanded the arrest and prosecution of Fauziya, citing allegations of enslavement, subjugation, and severe bodily harm inflicted on Bashariya.
The organization has also called for the rehabilitation of Bashariya, including adequate compensation, care, and access to quality education.
MURIC urged the police to leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice is served.
