The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) have agreed to establish a joint committee aimed at accelerating digital transformation and strengthening capacity across Nigeria’s judicial system.
The agreement was reached during a courtesy visit by an NJI delegation to NITDA headquarters. The delegation, led by the Institute’s Administrator, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo (Rtd), sought NITDA’s technical expertise to modernise judicial operations and deepen digital adoption.
NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, welcomed the collaboration and commended NJI’s proactive embrace of technology. He stressed that emerging tools such as Artificial Intelligence are intended to support and enhance judicial processes rather than replace them.
The initiative aligned with Nigeria’s National Digital Literacy Framework, which targets 70 percent digital literacy by 2027 and 95 percent by 2030. As part of the partnership, NITDA will extend its Cisco-supported online training programmes to NJI staff, building on the participation of over 54,000 civil servants already enrolled nationwide.
On implementation, Inuwa pledged to share NITDA’s digital transformation playbook to guide the judiciary’s transition. He also proposed a co-creation model involving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to develop tailored digital solutions for the sector.
Both agencies said the collaboration is expected to boost productivity, improve service delivery, and position Nigeria’s justice system to remain competitive in an increasingly digital global environment.
