COAS Reaffirms Military Resolve During Battlefield Assessment Visit to North East

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s determination to decisively defeat all security threats confronting the nation, assuring that troops remain resolute despite recent operational challenges.

General Shaibu gave the assurance on Friday during an operational visit to Yobe State, where he was received by Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport. The visit, according to military authorities, was aimed at boosting troop morale and assessing the evolving security situation in the North East.

Addressing troops and stakeholders, the Army Chief acknowledged recent attacks on military positions but emphasized that such incidents would not deter ongoing operations. He noted that the Army is continuously refining its strategies to counter emerging threats and consolidate gains recorded in various theatres of operation.

“Despite the dynamic nature of the threats, the Nigerian Army remains committed to its constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity,” he said, while calling on state governments to strengthen collaboration with security forces.

General Shaibu commended the government and people of Yobe State for their sustained support, describing civil-military cooperation as critical to achieving long-term security and stability.

At the Headquarters, Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI in Damaturu, Babagana Zulum, accompanied by Ali Ndume, paid a condolence visit to the Army Chief and troops over personnel lost in recent encounters with terrorists. Governor Zulum pledged enhanced support and the development of additional strategies to assist security agencies in tackling evolving threats.

In his interaction with troops, General Shaibu charged them to remain aggressive and unwavering in their operations, urging them to honour fallen comrades through sustained efforts to restore peace in the region.

Representing the Yobe State Governor, the Deputy Governor praised the Nigerian Army’s resilience and sacrifices, noting its pivotal role in restoring stability across conflict-affected areas. He also offered prayers for fallen soldiers, acknowledging their ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.

The visit underscored ongoing military efforts under Operation HADIN KAI to strengthen operational effectiveness and reinforce troop morale amid persistent security challenges in the North East.
