The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has said the recent conviction of several Boko Haram terrorists, alongside the accelerated trial of over 500 suspects, reflects a renewed commitment by the Federal Government to decisively tackle insecurity in the country.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group described the development as a clear indication of fresh momentum in prosecuting terrorism-related cases and delivering justice to victims of insurgency.
According to TMV, the conviction of more than 10 Boko Haram members currently standing trial in Abuja demonstrated that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is prioritising the swift dispensation of justice.
The group noted that many of the cases had previously lingered for between five and seven years without trial, stressing that the ongoing phased trials now in their ninth round are expected to significantly speed up judicial outcomes.
TMV highlighted a recent ruling by James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, who sentenced four Boko Haram terrorists to life imprisonment after they pleaded guilty to terrorism charges filed by the Federal Government. The court also convicted 14 other suspects, handing them prison terms ranging from 20 to 25 years.
Describing the judgments as a strong signal of the government’s resolve, the group said the convictions would help strengthen national security and restore public confidence in the judicial system.
It further commended the Federal Government, through the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, for empanelling 10 judges to fast-track the trials, noting that the move has been instrumental in ensuring timely prosecution of the cases.
TMV also praised the judges for sacrificing their Easter vacation to focus on the terrorism trials, describing their efforts as a demonstration of dedication to justice and national interest.
