The Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, a prominent Nigerian business executive and socialite, within 24 hours.
Presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, issued the order after hearing submissions from Achimugu’s counsels, Kehinde Ogunwumiju, SAN, and Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, as well as EFCC’s legal team led by Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, and Ekene Iheanacho, SAN.
Justice Ekwo also mandated all parties to return to court on May 2, 2025, to report compliance with the ruling.
Achimugu, the Group Managing Director and CEO of Felak Concept Group — a conglomerate involved in engineering, maritime, oil and gas, and IT — was arrested on Monday upon arrival at the Abuja airport, despite a previous undertaking to honour EFCC’s invitation.
EFCC had declared her wanted in March over allegations including criminal conspiracy, money laundering, fraud, and possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime. Although she was previously granted administrative bail, the Commission later accused her of jumping bail.
Her lawyer condemned the arrest, describing it as a violation of an existing court order.
The case is expected to continue as the court monitors the enforcement of its directive.
