Court sentences Chinese national to death by hanging for killing Nigerian lover

A Kano High Court has sentenced a Chinese national, Frank Geng-Quangrong to death by hanging for killing his girlfriend in Kano in 2022.

Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji in a ruling on Tuesday said the accused was found guilty of the offence, and then convicted and sentenced him to death by hanging till he breaths his last.
“The defendant’s testimony is inconsistent. I hereby find him guilty. I hereby recommend mercy by the Kano State Governor on behalf of the convict,” Justice Sanusi ruled.
Prosecution stated that the offence contravened the provision of Section 221(b) of the Penal Code Law.
On September 16, 2022, Quangrong stabbed a 23-year-old to death at her family residence in Janbulo quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano.
This gruesome murder of the young Nigerian woman, who was on one-year mandatory service to Nigeria with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) led to anger and outrage nationwide.
Popularly known as “Ummita,” the deceased was killed at Janbulo Quarters in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano.
The deceased was buried around 10am last Saturday, according to Islamic rites.
The mother of the 23-year-old Nigerian woman revealed that the Chinese national first pushed her down when she opened the door for him after he had banged on it several times. She immediately rushed to her daughter’s room where he stabbed her to death.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the judgement, the victim’s mother, Hajiya Fatima Zubairu, expressed satisfaction with the judge’s decision.
