Dabiri-Erewa Celebrates Anosike’s Historic NBL Triumph, Says Feat Inspires Nigerian Youth

The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian-born basketball star E.J. Anosike on his historic performance in the 2026 season of China’s National Basketball League (NBL).

In a statement issued in Abuja by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head, Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Dabiri-Erewa described Anosike’s achievement as unprecedented, noting that he is the first player in the league’s history to sweep all major honours.

Anosike’s accolades include winning the 2026 NBL Championship and Finals MVP, emerging as Regular Season Scoring Leader in 2024, clinched Best International Player in 2025, earning two All-Star selections (2025 and 2026), and securing the 2026 All-Star Slam Dunk title.

Dabiri-Erewa praised his consistency, discipline, and exceptional performance, stating that his success reflects the resilience and excellence Nigerians continue to display globally.

“Anosike’s journey is a powerful testament to hard work, focus, and determination. His record-breaking accomplishments have not only brought pride to Nigeria but have also set a new standard of excellence in international basketball,” she said.

She further noted that the athlete’s feat served as a source of inspiration to young Nigerians, particularly aspiring sportsmen and women, urging them to remain committed to their goals.

The NiDCOM boss reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to celebrating and supporting Nigerians in the diaspora who continue to excel and project the country’s image positively on the global stage.
