Hon Dr.Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has called on alumni of Obafemi Awolowo University (Great Ife) to give back to their alma mater as a way of fostering its growth and development.
Dabiri-Erewa, a proud alumni of the then University of Ife (Class of 1983), made this appeal in Abuja while receiving the newly elected executive members of the Great Ife Alumni Association, Abuja Chapter.
Expressing her delight at the visit, she commended the association for its dedication to the institution’s progress and assured them of her full support.
“I am proud to support this initiative and will work with you to ensure we contribute meaningfully to our great institution. This is a legacy we will all be proud of,” she stated.
Earlier, Mr. Shola Bickersteth, Chairman of the Great Ife Alumni Association, Abuja Chapter, briefed Dabiri-Erewa on plans for the 2025 Global Reunion of Great Ife alumni, which will bring together former students from across the world to strengthen ties and promote development projects.
As part of their contributions, the Abuja Chapter has taken up an ambitious initiative to address the 8,000-bed space deficit on campus by launching an accommodation project. The delegation urged the NiDCOM Boss to adopt a campus project that would significantly enhance student welfare.
“This reunion will be a landmark event, uniting alumni from all walks of life to celebrate our shared heritage and give back to the institution that shaped us,” Bickersteth said.
