The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olakunle Nafiu, has tasked Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS) Schedule Officers of the Scheme to prioritise data integrity, strengthen monitoring systems, and improve evaluation frameworks.
General Nafiu gave the charge at the 2026 edition of the NYSC Planning, Research and Statistics Schedule Officers’ Workshop held in Abuja, stressing that accurate and timely data are essential for sound policy formulation and effective decision-making within the Scheme.
Represented by the Director of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, Chinwendu Chukwu, the Director-General described the workshop as a critical platform for reflection, knowledge-sharing, and strategic repositioning aimed at enhancing service delivery.
He emphasised the need for PRS officers to acquire relevant skills and competencies, assuring that the NYSC management would continue to prioritise capacity building through training and incentives to boost performance.
Nafiu urged participants to maximise the opportunity provided by the workshop to sharpen their expertise and adopt innovative approaches to their duties.
“As PRS Schedule Officers, you are custodians of the Scheme’s records and archival materials at State Secretariats. You must safeguard these facilities with a high sense of responsibility,” he said.
He further described the officers as the think tank of the Scheme, encouraging them to engage in research activities that would advance the operations and ideals of the NYSC.
The Director-General reaffirmed management’s commitment to strengthening research initiatives, promoting inter-departmental collaboration, and integrating PRS functions into the Scheme’s broader strategic framework.
Also speaking, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Nura Umar, said the workshop aligned with the Director-General’s vision of building a resilient workforce within the Scheme.
He noted that the theme of the workshop, “Enhancing Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Skills for PRS Officers for Improved Service Delivery,” highlighted the importance of effective tracking and evaluation of NYSC programmes to ensure efficiency.
Umar urged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the sessions to improve their performance, adding that experts would deliver lectures designed to strengthen their professional capacity.
The workshop attracted PRS Schedule Officers from all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.
