The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has strengthened its commitment to advancing peacebuilding in Nigeria through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with five non-governmental organizations.
Director-General of the Institute, Joseph Ochogwu, described the development as a significant milestone in consolidating collective efforts to address the country’s complex and evolving conflict landscape.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Abuja, Ochogwu said the partnerships would enhance IPCR’s capacity to deliver impactful services through research, policy advocacy, direct interventions, and capacity development.
He noted that the ever-changing dynamics of society continue to generate new forms of conflicts, requiring innovative and forward-looking approaches.
“Conflicts and social problems are constantly evolving and, in some cases, mutating. This demands critical thinking and sustainable strategies to address them effectively,” he said.
The IPCR boss emphasized that the Institute collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders, including government agencies, international bodies, civil society groups, and community-based organizations committed to promoting peace.
He urged the partner organizations to move beyond formal agreements and focus on implementation, stressing that the true value of the MoUs lies in measurable impact.
“These MoUs are not just ceremonial. They are a call to action. We believe in activating the spirit behind them by leveraging our collective strengths to deliver real value to society,” he added.
The organizations that entered into partnership with IPCR include Carl-Maji Foundation, 3C’s Met International Institute, Ihotu Children and Women Support Initiative (ICAWSI), Esteemed Hub Foundation, and Peace Education and Practice Network (PEPNET). Each organization brings expertise spanning women and youth empowerment, alternative dispute resolution, education, and community-based peace initiatives.
The agreements are expected to strengthen collaboration between IPCR and civil society actors, reinforcing a multi-stakeholder approach to conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and sustainable development across Nigeria.
