The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has urged Muslims to use the occasion of Eid-ul-Maulud to reflect on the life and virtues of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and emulate his teachings of compassion, peace, and unity.
The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate the birth of the Holy Prophet.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau described the Prophet as a model for humanity and stressed the importance of prayers for peace, stability, and prosperity in Nigeria.
“As we celebrate the birthday of our noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), let us reflect on his virtues and teachings and follow his examples in our daily activities. Let us imbibe the lessons of compassion, peace, and support for one another as preached by our noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW),” he said.
The lawmaker, who also serve as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, reiterated the National Assembly’s commitment to addressing national challenges through constitutional reforms.
“As Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, we recently held zonal public hearings across the six geopolitical zones. Issues such as local government autonomy, electoral and judicial reforms, state creation, state police, and inclusive governance were examined,” he noted, assuring that the committee would continue to work diligently to close legislative gaps.
The National Assembly is scheduled to resume from its annual recess on September 23, 2025.
