The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has convened an emergency security meeting with Area and Tactical Commanders, reinforcing professional policing standards and warning against harassment, extortion and misconduct by officers.
The meeting, held at the FCT Police Command Headquarters in Garki II, Abuja, focused on strengthening security operations, improving professionalism and consolidating progress made in reducing crime across the territory.
Addressing senior officers, Sanusi commended personnel for their commitment to duty and noted that crime rates in the FCT had remained relatively low within the period under review. He, however, urged officers to remain vigilant, proactive and responsive in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The police commissioner also reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on strict adherence to professional conduct, warned that extortion, harassment of residents and other forms of misconduct would not be tolerated.
He directed Area Commanders to relay the instructions to Divisional Police Officers and their subordinates, stressed that supervisory officers would be held vicariously liable for misconduct committed under their watch.
In a move aimed at enforcing discipline, Sanusi directed the X-Squad Commander to intensify monitoring and enforcement against unprofessional conduct, warned that erring officers would face arrest and disciplinary measures.
The CP also announced the dissolution of all Tactical Teams in the command, in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, with the units now merged into a single structure known as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), which will handle responses to violent crimes across the FCT.
He called on residents to continue cooperating with the police and other security agencies in sustaining peace and security, while urging the public to avoid provoking confrontations for the purpose of recording and circulating content online.
Sanusi further encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious activities, describing public cooperation as vital to effective policing.
The FCT Police Command said it remain committed to implementing proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of residents across the territory.
