The Federal Government has congratulated the Government and people of Zimbabwe on the country’s Independence Day, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations and advancing shared African aspirations.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria described Zimbabwe’s independence anniversary as a historic milestone that symbolizes the resilience, determination, and aspirations of its people, while underscoring Africa’s broader journey toward freedom, dignity, and self-determination.
The statement noted that Nigeria recognizes Zimbabwe’s contributions to regional and continental affairs, particularly in promoting African solidarity, economic cooperation, and multilateral engagement. It added that Zimbabwe’s role in regional initiatives continues to support peace, stability, and sustainable development in Southern Africa.
According to the Ministry, Nigeria and Zimbabwe have maintained longstanding diplomatic relations rooted in shared historical experiences, including the struggle against colonialism and the pursuit of African liberation. Both countries, it said, have continued to work together through platforms such as the African Union and the United Nations to promote peace, security, and inclusive development.
The government also highlighted growing bilateral cooperation between both nations in trade, investment, education, agriculture, capacity building, and cultural exchange, stressing Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen engagement through sustained diplomatic dialogue and mutually beneficial partnerships.
It further emphasized the importance of deepening people-to-people ties between the two countries as a means of reinforcing shared identity, cultural affinity, and continental integration.
Reaffirming its commitment to stronger bilateral relations, Nigeria expressed optimism for enhanced cooperation with Zimbabwe in support of economic growth, democratic governance, and regional stability, while extending best wishes to the southern African nation for continued peace, progress, and prosperity.
