The FCT Police Command has reactivated a joint security initiative known as “Operation Sweep FCT” as part of renewed efforts to curb criminal activities and enhance safety across the Federal Capital Territory.
The operation was officially flagged off on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Eagle Square, with collaboration from sister security agencies and support from the FCT Administration led by the Minister, Nyesom Wike.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the initiative is designed to strengthen visibility policing, deter crime, and ensure rapid, coordinated responses to security threats across Abuja and its environs. She noted that participating agencies include the military, the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Federal Fire Service, among others.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, stated that the operation has been strategically divided into sectors to improve coordination, enhance rapid response capability, and maintain sustained security presence across the FCT.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to promptly report suspicious activities using designated emergency lines.
The Command assured residents that the initiative mark a renewed determination to ensure a safer and more secure Federal Capital Territory.
