The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), FCT Chapter, in a move aimed at enhancing collaboration between law enforcement and religious stakeholders in the Federal Capital Territory.
The meeting, held at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, was hosted by the CAN Chairman, Rev. Timothy A. Ikechukwu, and attended by senior members of the association, alongside prominent pastors and church leaders from across the FCT.
Speaking during the engagement, CP Sanusi reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Police Command to strengthening partnerships with religious organisations as part of efforts to enhance security across the capital city. He highlighted his administration’s open-door policing strategy, assuring the association of continued cooperation, improved intelligence sharing, and adequate deployment of personnel to protect places of worship.
The police chief also stressed the importance of proactive measures in addressing emerging security challenges, noting that collaboration with critical stakeholders remains key to effective policing.
In his remarks, Rev. Ikechukwu commended the Commissioner of Police for the visit, describing it as a significant step toward fostering stronger police-community relations. He noted that the engagement was unprecedented and pledged the association’s support in intelligence gathering and public sensitisation efforts.
He further emphasised that safeguarding lives and property is a shared responsibility, calling for sustained cooperation between citizens and security agencies.
The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
