The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, according to a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani. He extended congratulations to Nigerian workers, acknowledging their contributions to national development.
Tunji-Ojo praised the resilience, hard work, and dedication of workers across various sectors, noting that their efforts remain vital to the country’s growth and prosperity. He emphasized the importance of patriotism, productivity, and commitment to duty as key drivers of sustainable development.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the welfare and security of workers while fostering an enabling environment for economic progress.
He also urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the holiday and encouraged citizens to reflect on the values of unity and hard work in nation-building.
