The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha (Sallah) celebration.
This was made known in a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
While congratulating all Muslim faithful in Nigeria and the Diaspora, the Minister urged them to emulate the spirit of sacrifice, obedience, and faith as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon him).
Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to use the Eid period to pray for the unity, peace, and prosperity of the country.
He assured that the people-focused policies of the Tinubu administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda are aimed at restoring the country’s greatness and fostering national development.
The Minister urged all citizens to support the efforts of the present administration in building a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. The celebration falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar.
This year’s Arafat Day will be observed on Thursday, June 5, 2025, followed by the Eid celebration the next day.
“We wish the Muslim Ummah a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Adha,” the statement added.
