The Federal Government has launched the Digitalised Nigeria Education Management Information System (DNEMIS), a nationwide education data platform aimed at strengthening planning, accountability and evidence-based decision-making across the country’s education sector.
Speaking at the unveiling in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, described DNEMIS as a major reform that replaces the traditional paper-based Annual School Census with a real-time digital system for collecting and managing education data.
According to the minister, the platform has already captured data from 124,548 schools, representing 58.4 per cent national coverage. The database also contains records of more than 40 million learners, 1.19 million teachers, 730,000 classrooms and 607,000 sanitation facilities across the country.
He added that all schools captured on the platform have been geo-mapped, while every learner will be assigned a unique 16-digit Learner Identification Number linked to the National Identification Number (NIN).
Dr. Alausa said the digital platform would enhance education planning, budgeting, teacher deployment, school safety and the implementation of interventions aimed at improving learning outcomes nationwide.
He also commended development partners for supporting the initiative and reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to ensuring that every school, teacher and learner is captured on the platform to promote equitable, inclusive and quality education across Nigeria.
The Digitalised Nigeria Education Management Information System is expected to provide government and stakeholders with accurate, real-time data to support policy formulation and improve service delivery in the education sector.
