Prominent human rights lawyer and Executive Director of the Citizens Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights (CASER), Mr. Frank Tietie, has been invited as a Guest Speaker at the 2025 International Human Rights Day Conference organized by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch.
The conference, themed “Corruption and Human Rights: The Hidden Cost of Bad Governance,” will take place on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Agip Hall, Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos, starting at 9:00 a.m.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Mr. Tietie described the invitation as a “significant honour” acknowledged his over 20 years of consistent advocacy for human rights and good governance.
“I am very pleased with this invitation by the NBA Lagos Branch. It further recognises my two decades of dedicated advocacy in the field of human rights as a lawyer and public advocate. Over the years, I have been privileged to work alongside many passionate Nigerians who believe, as I do, that defending the rights and dignity of every person is the cornerstone of a just society,” Tietie said.
The CASER Executive Director also commended the Nigerian media for their unwavering support in amplifying his advocacy, noting that platforms such as Arise News, AIT, and Radio Nigeria have been instrumental in promoting human rights and democratic values.
“My work as a human rights promoter has been significantly enhanced by the Nigerian media. I remain especially grateful to Arise News Channel and to a host of other media organizations who have graciously granted me the use of their platforms to promote human rights, democracy, and good governance in Nigeria,” he added.
Mr. Tietie further urged journalists to give the event wide coverage, emphasizing its significance as Nigeria joins the rest of the world in marking the 77th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
“The Nigerian media have always been strong partners in the human rights struggle. I encourage them to lend their presence and coverage to this important event,” he stated.
The event is being coordinated by the NBA Lagos Branch Human Rights Committee, led by Mr. James Sonde (Vice Chairman, NBA Lagos Branch & Committee Chair), with Mr. Wale Fapohunda serving as Chairman of the Planning Sub-Committee, and Mrs. Uchenna Ogunedo Akingbade, Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch.
