The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS12.12 Darazo Unit Command, has apprehended a dangerously overloaded vehicle along the Bauchi–Kari route, in a decisive move to enforce road safety regulations and prevent avoidable tragedy.
The vehicle was intercepted while conveying passengers seated on top of piled goods, exposing them to extreme danger and constituting a gross violation of traffic safety rules.
FRSC described the situation as a serious threat to human lives, noting that overloading remains one of the major causes of road crashes due to its impact on vehicle stability, braking efficiency, and driver control.
According to the Command, carrying passengers in such unsafe conditions is unacceptable, as any sudden brake, tyre burst, or loss of control could result in catastrophic consequences.
The Darazo Unit Command warned drivers and vehicle owners against the dangerous practice of overloading, stressing that human lives must never be treated as cargo. It urged motorists to comply strictly with prescribed loading limits and other safety regulations to protect passengers and other road users.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to sustained patrols and enforcement operations aimed at sanitizing the highways and reducing road traffic crashes across the country.
FRSC also used the opportunity to remind members of the public that no journey is worth risking lives, called on commuters to reject boarding overloaded vehicles and report traffic violations to appropriate authorities.
