The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has handed over the sum of ₦1.12 million recovered from the scene of a fatal road crash to the family of a deceased victim, in a move the Corps described as a demonstration of transparency, integrity and accountability.
The money, according to the FRSC, was recovered during a rescue operation following a fatal crash that occurred on April 11, 2026, at Idu Village along the Gegu–Abaji route, involving a Toyota Corolla with registration number GWP418CV and a Volkswagen Golf marked RBC220DG.
The driver of the Volkswagen Golf, identified as Mallam Aliyu Mohammed Bala, sustained critical injuries in the crash and was later confirmed dead at the hospital.
FRSC said its Zebra Team, while carrying out rescue operations at the crash scene, recovered the sum of ₦1,120,000 alongside other personal valuables belonging to the deceased, noting that the items were properly documented in line with operational procedures.
The recovered money was formally handed over to the deceased’s family during an event held at the Command on April 20, 2026.
The elder brother of the deceased, Bala Yakubu, received the money on behalf of the family in the presence of witnesses, including N. Yusuf and Aminu Mahmud Maku.
The handover was conducted by the Acting Unit Commander, Chief Route Commander Ojonugwa E. Ejah, alongside other principal staff of the Command.
Reacting, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the gesture as a reflection of the Corps’ commitment to ethical conduct and accountability.
He also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
The FRSC said the development further reinforced its culture of professionalism and responsible public service, while assuring Nigerians of its commitment to integrity in the discharge of its duties.
