The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured the conviction of a traffic offender who abducted and assaulted one of its operatives during a routine patrol along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja.
Confirming the development, the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, said the incident occurred on 30 April 2026 at about 0900 hours when personnel of RS 7.19 Dutse Alhaji Unit Command, on special patrol at Gegu Filling Station, flagged down a Toyota Hilux (Reg. No. YAB 931 AE) for traffic enforcement.
Rather than comply, the driver reportedly turned violent assaulting and unlawfully abducting an FRSC Marshal in the course of duty.
The situation was swiftly brought under control through the combined efforts of the patrol team and Police personnel attached to the operation. The suspect was immediately arrested and taken to FCDA Police Station, Kubwa, while the vehicle was impounded.
Following diligent prosecution, the offender was convicted by a competent court and ordered to pay a fine of ₦72,000 or serve three months’ imprisonment. The court also awarded ₦50,000 compensation to the assaulted Marshal.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the professionalism and restraint displayed by the patrol team, noting that attacks on enforcement officers undermine public safety and the rule of law.
He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to firm but humane enforcement of traffic regulations and warned motorists against any form of obstruction, assault, or intimidation of FRSC personnel.
The Corps further urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, stressing that compliance with traffic rules remains essential to safer roads nationwide.
FRSC reiterated its resolve to continue working with security agencies and the judiciary to ensure offenders are brought to justice.
