Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) has unveiled a bold new vision aimed at positioning the organisation as Nigeria’s leading enabler of innovative digital transformation and inclusive economic growth, while aspiring to become one of Africa’s foremost digital infrastructure institutions.
Speaking during a media briefing to kick off activities marking the company’s 20th anniversary in Abuja, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, said the organisation is entering a new phase focused on unlocking the full value of Nigeria’s digital infrastructure for government, businesses and citizens.
According to him, Galaxy Backbone was established in 2006 following a visionary decision by the Federal Government to create a shared digital infrastructure platform for government institutions, eliminate duplication, improve efficiency and support national development.
Reflecting on two decades of operations, Adeyanju noted that Galaxy Backbone has evolved from a connectivity provider into one of Nigeria’s most strategic digital infrastructure institutions, with fibre infrastructure spanning nearly 30 states, world-class Tier III and Tier IV data centres, cloud services and cybersecurity capabilities supporting critical government operations.
He said the organisation’s impact is measured not by the quantity of fibre cables or servers deployed, but by improved government service delivery, enhanced transparency, stronger cybersecurity, reduced duplication of investments and better access to information for citizens.
Looking ahead, Adeyanju said emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing, blockchain, data analytics and automation present immense opportunities for Nigeria.
“The foundations have already been laid. The challenge before us is to scale, modernise and unlock the full value of these investments,” he stated.
He announced a new corporate vision: “To become Nigeria’s leading enabler of innovative digital transformation and inclusive economic growth,” with a mission to deliver secure, scalable and innovative digital solutions that empower government and businesses.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Galaxy Backbone will host its inaugural Digital Transformation Summit under the theme, “Powering Nigeria’s Future,” bringing together government leaders, industry players, academics, development partners and technology innovators to explore how technology can accelerate national development.
The company will also unveil a refreshed brand identity reflecting its evolution from a government ICT infrastructure provider into a national digital transformation enabler.
Adeyanju expressed confidence that Galaxy Backbone possesses the capacity and strategic relevance to emerge as a leading digital transformation institution across Sub-Saharan Africa.
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the Board of Directors, partners, employees and stakeholders for their support over the years.
“The first 20 years were about building infrastructure. The next 20 years will be about unlocking the full value of that foundation for government, businesses, citizens and generations yet unborn,” he said.
