As Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) celebrates 20 years of operations, the organisation has highlighted its achievements in digital infrastructure development, cybersecurity protection and support for Nigeria’s digital economy.
Speaking during a media briefing marking GBB at 20, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, said the company has evolved into one of Nigeria’s most strategic digital infrastructure institutions over the past two decades.
He revealed that Galaxy Backbone currently operate about 5,000 kilometres of fibre optic infrastructure across 28 state capitals, providing connectivity that supports government services and digital operations nationwide.
According to him, the organisation also manages world-class Tier III and Tier IV certified data centres, cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity systems that host and protect critical government digital assets.
Adeyanju disclosed that despite increasing cyber threats, especially during election periods and national events, Galaxy Backbone has successfully protected government systems through its advanced cybersecurity operations centre and strategic partnerships with relevant security agencies.
He noted that the organisation is also investing in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing and digital innovation, including plans to train 100,000 public servants on the responsible use of AI.
In his remarks Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services, Mohammed Sani Ibrahim, described technology as a critical bridge for national development, urging greater investment in digital infrastructure to accelerate Nigeria’s economic growth.
He said Galaxy Backbone has matured into a national asset that continues to provide value through shared digital services, cloud solutions and technology advisory support to government institutions.
The company also highlighted ongoing partnerships with government agencies and private sector organisations aimed at supporting startups, SMEs and digital innovators through cloud services, connectivity and infrastructure support.
As part of activities marking GBB at 20, the organisation will undertake community-focused digital empowerment projects, host stakeholders at its inaugural Digital Transformation Summit and unveil a refreshed brand identity that reflects its future ambitions.
Prof. Adeyanju expressed confidence that Galaxy Backbone is well positioned to become a leading digital transformation institution in Sub-Saharan Africa, leveraging the foundation built over the last two decades to drive innovation, governance and economic growth across Nigeria.
