In a swift response to recent allegations by Mr. Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed claims of threats to Obi’s life as false and misleading.
Dr. Ganduje, in a statement released on Tuesday, described Obi’s accusations as baseless and an attempt to seek undue attention. He criticized the claims, which were made public via Obi’s verified social media account, as a calculated move to play the victim and incite emotional support.
The APC Chairman clarified that the allegations stemmed from a misinterpretation of comments made by Mr. Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, during an interview on Arise TV’s ThisDay Live on January 4, 2025. Ganduje asserted that Morka’s remarks, which addressed economic concerns and political rhetoric, were neither personal nor threatening towards Mr. Obi.
“By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has not only misled the public but also incited his supporters to issue threats against Morka and his family,” Ganduje said.
He urged Peter Obi to uphold the responsibility of providing accurate information and warned against spreading false narratives that could undermine public trust. Ganduje emphasized that Morka’s comments were a legitimate response to opposition rhetoric, and the APC would continue to counter false claims with facts.
The APC National Chairman reaffirmed the party’s commitment to defending the federal government and upholding democratic values, while calling on opposition figures to accept criticism as a normal part of the democratic process.
