Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye MFR ( Age 76, born 22 September 1946), known professionally as King Sunny Adé, is a Nigerian jùjú singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist He is regarded as one of the first African pop musicians to gain international success, and has been called one of the most influential musicians of all time.
Sunny started his early days with Moses Olaiya(Baba Sala) he later formed the Green Spots in 1967. Sunny Ade tour America & Europe where he played to mixed (both black & white) audiences. His stage act was characterised by dexterous dancing steps & mastery of the guiter. His album “Synchro System” earned him a Grammy nomination in the folk/ethnic music category.
Sunny Ade was the first to introduce the pedal steel guiter to the Nigerian pop music. He was the first to introduce the use of sysnthesizes, calvinet, vibraphone, tenor guiter into juju music. Sunny has collaborated with major artists such as Manu Dibango & Stevie Wonder. He is a twice Grammy Awards nominee. His music was featured in the 1983 film BREATHLESS, starring Richard Gere, and 1986 comedy”ONE MORE SATURDAY NIGHT” and he acted in Robert Altman’s 1987 comedy “O.C AND STIGG”. [Wiki].
