Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has presented the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment to the newly installed Alatorin of Atorin-Ijesa, Oba Omololu Ibitoye Afilaka, charged residents of Atakunmosa East Local Government to sustain peace and preserve the town’s rich cultural heritage.
Represented at the coronation ceremony by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Dosu Babatunde, the governor stressed that meaningful development can only thrive in an atmosphere of unity and harmony.
Adeleke warned against actions capable of disrupting communal peace, urging indigenes and residents to support the new monarch in advancing the growth and progress of the community.
“We are committed to peaceful coexistence across the state. I appeal to the residents to sustain the peace for which they are known and work with the Kabiyesi to bring about the growth our society needs,” the governor stated.
Responding, Oba Afilaka expressed appreciation to the governor for the confidence reposed in him, describing the Adeleke administration as people-oriented.
The monarch said his emergence as Alatorin marked the fulfilment of a long-cherished aspiration, pledging to serve the people of Atorin-Ijesa with commitment, fairness and dedication.
Meanwhile, the Egbe Atunluse Ile-Ijesa has congratulated the new traditional ruler, describing his appointment as a positive development for Ijesaland.
In a statement signed by the group’s Secretary, Wole Ajewole, the sociocultural organisation urged Oba Afilaka to collaborate with other progressive traditional rulers and stakeholders to deepen unity and accelerate development across the region.
“It is our hope that Kabiyesi will join hands with leaders of thought in Ijesaland to promote growth at this time when waves of development are happening across the land,” the statement added.
