Gov Akeredolu Lauds NYSC at 45, Promises More Support

The National Youth Service Corps has been commended for its significant impact in nation building and instilling leadership qualities into graduate youths of the country.

Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu stated this today while declaring open the NYSC 2018 Annual Management Conference opened in Akure, Ondo State capital.

He said Corps Members have played significant roles in national development through the provision of socie-economic and developmental projects.

The Governor added that the Scheme in the last four decades has built bridges between the various units of the Nigerian society.

He also hailed managers of the Scheme for moulding Corps Members to imbibe the spirit of endurance, cultural, social and political awareness for future development.

Akeredolu, who was represented at the conference by his deputy, Mr Alfred Agboola Ajayi said the Scheme has been a reliable partner in the supply of manpower to the various sectors of the society.

“We will not relent in our efforts to support the NYSC in order to assist the scheme to achieve its aims and objectives and continue to impact on the society”.

“Our administration has also introduced a package of N100,000, N80,000 and N50,000 for the State Honours Award winners as a way of appreciating the contributions of Corps Members to the development of the State”, the Governor added.

The Director General, Brigadier General Suleiman Kazaure in his welcome address stated that the Scheme deepened its partnership with the private sector which led to the recent handover of a multi million naira 1,000 capacity NYSC Integrated Skills Acquisition Centre for the North East in Gombe by Access bank Nigeria Plc.

He commended the Federal Government and some State Governments that are living up to their statutory responsibilities to the Scheme while he.called on other State Governments to follow suit especially where the Orientation Camps are dilapidated and unsafe for human habitation.

The 2018 Annual Management Conference with the theme “NYSC AT 45: Consolidating Gains and Creating Opportunities”, aims at reviewing the activities of the Scheme in the previous year and also re-strategize for the current year to provide policy direction on how to tackle new challenges.
