Security and Law Enforcement
Recognizing that security is fundamental to progress, Governor Okpebholo took swift action to curb criminal activities in the state. His administration deployed special tactical teams to volatile areas such as Agenebode and Uromi, leading to the rescue of kidnapped victims and the dismantling of criminal hideouts.
The passage of a new Cultism Prohibition Law, which prescribes stiffer penalties for cult-related offenses, further underscores his administration’s zero tolerance for crime. Additionally, the procurement of Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles and 1,000 high-performance motorcycles has strengthened the mobility of security agencies. The reconstitution of the Edo State Security Corps and the recovery of over 5,000 illegal firearms have also significantly bolstered the state’s security architecture.
Education: Restoring Learning Infrastructure
Understanding the importance of quality education, Governor Okpebholo initiated the renovation and reconstruction of 100 dilapidated primary and secondary schools across Edo State. This initiative goes beyond structural improvements, incorporating the provision of modern furniture and security fencing to protect school facilities from vandalism. These projects, slated for completion within weeks, reflect the administration’s commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment for students.
Healthcare: Strengthening Public Health Systems
In the health sector, the governor has facilitated the establishment of the National Obstetrics Fistula Centre by securing 25 hectares of land and a certificate of occupancy for the long-delayed project. This specialized facility will provide crucial medical services to women suffering from childbirth-related complications.
Additionally, the administration has launched the IsDB LLF Support to the Malaria Elimination Project, ensuring free malaria testing and treatment in government hospitals for the next two years. This initiative is a significant step in tackling public health concerns, particularly in rural communities.
Infrastructure and Economic Development
Edo State has become a hub of infrastructural development under Governor Okpebholo’s leadership. Several road projects, transportation upgrades, and energy initiatives have commenced, aimed at improving connectivity and driving economic growth.
On the economic front, the state’s internally generated revenue has increased from N8 billion to over N10 billion, reflecting prudent financial management.
