Three personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have been hospitalized after sustaining gunshot wounds during a drug raid in the Jahi area of Abuja on Thursday night.
The officers came under attack by armed men shortly after conducting an intelligence-led operation at an uncompleted building near the NNPC junction in Jahi. During the raid, the NDLEA team recovered 74 bottles of codeine, 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol (225mg), 4.9 kilograms of skunk a strain of cannabis—and five android phones.
As the operatives exited the scene, they were ambushed by gunmen. One officer was shot in the rib, while the other two suffered injuries to the back and leg.
The wounded officers were initially treated at the Police Clinic in Garki, Area 1, before being transferred to the National Hospital in Abuja for further medical care.
NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), who is currently in Kano for official engagements, personally contacted the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital to ensure the officers received urgent attention. He also called the injured officers to wish them a speedy recovery and praised the Police Clinic for its prompt response.
General Marwa assured that the Agency will collaborate with other security forces to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
