The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has praised the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of Corps Members and NYSC formations across the country.
General Nafiu gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army in Jos, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, where he acknowledged the critical role of security agencies in sustaining the Scheme’s operations nationwide.

According to the NYSC Director General, the success of the Scheme is largely dependent on a peaceful and secure environment, noting that the Army has consistently provided the support needed for Corps Members to carry out their assignments without disruption.
He specifically lauded the 3 Division for maintaining stability within its area of responsibility, revealing that the NYSC has never been compelled to suspend or postpone an Orientation Course in any state under the Division’s jurisdiction due to security challenges.
General Nafiu disclosed that more than 7,000 Corps Members are currently serving in Plateau State, contributing significantly to the state’s socio-economic development through their various places of primary assignment.
Highlighting the achievements of the Scheme since its establishment, he said the NYSC has continued to strengthen national unity and integration by promoting cultural exchange, fostering inter-tribal marriages, and creating opportunities for youth empowerment and employment.
The Director General also underscored the Scheme’s contributions to critical sectors, particularly health and education, through the deployment of Corps doctors, nurses, and teachers to underserved communities across the country.
“We seek your continued support in providing an enabling environment for us to effectively discharge our mandate,” Nafiu appealed.
He further disclosed that the NYSC is implementing reforms aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing service delivery nationwide.
In his response, the GOC 3 Division, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, commended Brigadier General Nafiu for the achievements recorded since assuming office as NYSC Director General.
Describing him as a worthy ambassador of the Nigerian Army, Oyinlola also praised the NYSC Plateau State Coordinator, members of staff, and Corps Members for their commitment and exemplary service.
“Whether we like it or not, testimonies abound about the positive impact of the NYSC. Keep up the good work, and I am confident you will continue to take the Scheme to greater heights,” the GOC stated.
Major General Oyinlola reaffirmed the commitment of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, to ensuring the safety and security of Corps Members serving within its operational area at all times.
