The House of Representatives has congratulated Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana on his appointment as the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA) and Engr. Bashir Aminu Yero as the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly (DCNA).
The appointments, made by the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), follow the retirement of the former CNA, Sani Magaji Tambuwal, who exited the service after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.
During Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, lawmakers were officially informed of the new appointments, which took effect on February 2, 2025. The Deputy Speaker expressed the House’s confidence in the new appointees, stating, “We are confident that they will bring valuable experience and insight to these esteemed offices, further enhancing our legislative functions.”
He also extended the House’s gratitude to the outgoing CNA, Sani Magaji Tambuwal, for his dedicated years of service, acknowledged his professionalism and leadership in strengthening the National Assembly’s operations.
Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana, a seasoned legal and legislative expert, has served in various capacities within the National Assembly since 1993. His experience in legislative drafting, committee oversight, and administrative leadership has positioned him well for the role. Prior to his appointment as CNA, he rose through the ranks, serving as a Litigation Officer and later as the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly.
Similarly, Engr. Bashir Aminu Yero, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), has extensive expertise in facility management, legislative infrastructure, and bureaucratic coordination. His tenure as Acting Secretary of the Directorate of Estate and Works has provided him with the experience needed to improve institutional efficiency in the National Assembly.
The House of Representatives look forward to working with the new National Assembly leadership to enhance legislative efficiency, strengthen institutional management, and improve service delivery, reinforcing Nigeria’s democratic process.
