The Senate Minority Leader and senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Abba Moro, has commissioned a newly constructed and fully equipped Primary Healthcare Centre at Udegi-Ito in Obi Local Government Area and a PCI water project at Okpoga in Okpokwu LGA, assured residents of continued delivery of people-oriented projects across the district.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremonies held on Saturday and Sunday, Senator Moro said his mission was to bridge the infrastructural deficit in Benue South, which he attributed to years of neglect and abandonment by the Benue State Government.
He stated that he would continue to use his office to attract projects that directly improve the living conditions of the people, stressing that healthcare remained a major priority for him.
According to the senator, no fewer than twelve healthcare centres have been built across Benue South, adding that more of the projects would soon be unveiled.
“I entered politics because I want to make a difference. Everybody has a page in history. People should judge me when I’m no longer on the stage. Don’t judge me halfway, wait for me to finish,” Moro said.
“I don’t talk much, I let my works speak for me. For over 100 years, the people in Udegi have looked for water, today we have found water here. It’s God that is working.”
He congratulated the benefiting communities and urged residents to safeguard the facilities against vandalism, while also revealing plans to approach the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for the deployment of a doctor and nurse to the healthcare centre pending the recruitment of permanent medical personnel.
At the event in Udegi-Ito, the Acting Ad’Utu Obi, Chief Emmanuel Odeh Obagi, commended the senator for what he described as unprecedented development in the community.
He noted that the healthcare centre and solar-powered borehole were the first of their kind in the area, adding that previous attempts to secure potable water had failed.
Chief Emmanuel also praised Senator Moro for facilitating the ongoing reconstruction of the Otukpo-Obi-Oju road, saying the project had significantly reduced travel time between Udegi, Obarike-Ito, Otukpo and Oju communities.
The contractor handling the projects, Frederick Agada, thanked the senator for the opportunity to execute the healthcare centre and rehabilitate the PCI water project, while appreciating members of the host communities for their cooperation throughout the construction period.
Several community leaders and political stakeholders, including youth leaders, elders and PDP chieftains from the zone, also lauded Senator Moro for his developmental strides and pledged continued support for his leadership.
Highlights of the ceremonies included the cutting of tapes by retired Major General Odeh Ede at Udegi-Ito and PDP sole candidate for Ogbadibo State Assembly, Hon. Anyebe J. Agada, at Okpoga.
