The Management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), has declared Tuesday, 24th June, and Wednesday, 25th June 2025, as lecture-free days to mourn the tragic loss of one of its students. The period is dedicated to reflection and prayers for the peaceful repose of the departed soul.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Alhaji Baba Akote, the University affirmed that normalcy has been fully restored in Lapai town as well as the institution’s Main and Kobo campuses.
This development followed an emergency security meeting convened by the University Management with key stakeholders in attendance, including government officials, the Students’ Union Government, traditional leaders, alumni representatives, and security operatives.
The University categorically dispelled rumours suggesting attacks by youths from the host community, described such information as false and misleading. It confirmed that the situation in Lapai is calm and urged students to go about their academic and personal activities without fear.
As part of efforts to ensure the safety of all members of the University community, regular security patrols have been instituted around student lodges and key access points. Students are advised to remain law-abiding, refrain from spreading unverified information, and cooperate with security personnel for their safety and that of others.
The University expressed gratitude to the Niger State Government, security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders for their prompt intervention and continued support in maintaining peace and ensuring a secure learning environment.
