IGP Disu Honours 17 Fallen PMF Officers Killed in Yobe Terror Attack

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday led a solemn memorial parade at the Force Headquarters in Abuja to honour 17 fallen officers of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) who lost their lives during a terrorist attack in Yobe State.

The officers were killed in the early hours of May 8, 2026, during an attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Speaking during the memorial ceremony held on May 19, 2026, the IGP described the slain officers as gallant heroes who paid the supreme price in defence of Nigeria and its citizens.

According to him, the sacrifices of the fallen officers represent the highest form of patriotism and commitment to national duty.

Disu noted that the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the PMF, continues to deploy hundreds of personnel across the North-East in joint operations with the Armed Forces and other security agencies to combat terrorism and violent extremism.

He said police officers daily risk their lives under difficult conditions to ensure the safety and security of Nigerians.

“We want every Nigerian to feel, and to know in their hearts, that there are men and women in uniform who wake up every morning with one purpose: to serve, to protect, and if called upon, to give everything,” the IGP stated.

He stressed that behind every fallen officer is a grieving family, a future abruptly cut short, and a nation indebted to their sacrifice.

The police boss assured that the sacrifices of the slain officers would never be forgotten, pledging that their deaths would not be in vain.

“The Nigeria Police Force will not waver. We will continue to show up, to stand firm, and to give our very best in service to this great nation,” he added.

The IGP also extended condolences to the families of the deceased officers, assuring them of the Force’s support during the difficult period.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed officers and for divine protection over all security personnel defending the country.
