The Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President on Stakeholders’ Engagement and Mobilization, Hon. Femi Odere, has said that the Nigerian insurance industry is still a gold mine that’s yet to be fully tapped to realize the country’s full economic potential.
Odere made this remark at the 2024 Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) Closing Dinner and Awards at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja on Tuesday.
In his Goodwill Message to the gathering of captains of the industry on behalf of the Senate President His Excellency Godswill Obot Akpabio, Odere said that insurance should be seen as a veritable financial instrument that should be fully integrated into the country’s financial architecture as seen in developed economies if the country must experience real and sustainable economic growth.
The Senate President’s aide said that there was no doubt in his mind that President Tinubu was also thinking about properly repositioning the insurance industry when he said during a visit to the Villa of members of The Patriots, led by Chief Emeka Anyaoku to his office, that his priority was to put the economy in a “strong footing after which he would address those constitutional impediments militating against the country’s economic growth.”
“The 10th Senate, under the able leadership of the Senate President, is working in lockstep, as it should, with the presidency to achieve this lofty economic objective for the Nigerian people. And to realize this economic objective, the involvement of the National Assembly in strengthening the insurance industry with specifically targeted legislations cannot be overemphasized,” he said.
He said the Senate President would have preferred to be physically present at the gathering, but it was impossible due to his punishing schedule as the Number 3 leader in the nation’s governance structure.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs and Strategy of the Office of the First Lady, Wahab Alawiye King commended the accomplishments of the body of Insurance Brokers in his keynote speech.
Inspector General of Police,IGP Kayode Egbetokun and Rt. Hon. Usman Jaha, Chairman of the House Committee on Insurance and Actuarial Matters, were conferred as NCRIB Fellows.
