ISI HIJAB SAGA : Welfare Foundation Calls For FG Intervention

The Islamic Welfare Foundation has condemned and described what it termed the authoritarian and dictatorial tendency of the Management and Staff of International School, Ibadan as depicted in a video trending on the social media

The Islamic welfare Foundation in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Engr.Abu Salami and National Secretary, Prof Suleiman Salami accordingly said “If this video is true, then we need to examine and re-examine the pretense to civility and diversity in our society. Where is our culture of tolerance and what kind of future are we building for Nigeria?

Let it be said that we cannot continue to pretend to some of the provisions in our Constitution as a diverse and united people.

The Constitution of Nigeria allows all citizens to practice their religion as long as it does not infringe on that of another person. The questions therefore are: How does the exercise of the human right of the Muslim students of ISI to wear hijab affect other ISI students? How is management, discipline and control of ISI inhibited by the use of hijab? What is the offence of these innocent children?

For Islamic Welfare Foundation, the attitude of the school management is nothing more than christianisation of the school. Would they have preferred the students come to school naked?

We call on the Federal Government of Nigeria particularly Ministry of Education to intervene decisively by calling the University of Ibadan and ISI to order before the matter gets out of hand.

A stitch in time saves nine”
