The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has debunked social media reports alleged that a naval officer, Lt. Ahmed Yerima, was attacked by policemen during a stop-and-search operation at NNPC Junction along the Kubwa Expressway.
The Command described the viral posts, published by Instagram blogger “Mazitundeednut,” as false, misleading, and capable of inciting public fear.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on 16th November 2025 at about 6:15 p.m., when a patrol team intercepted an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows an offence that routinely warranted closer scrutiny.
Officers reportedly approached the vehicle and asked the lone occupant to identify himself and explain the concealments. The occupant allegedly refused to comply, instead winding up his windows and making several phone calls.
A few minutes later, three naval personnel arrived at the scene and politely identified the motorist as their colleague. After the confirmation, the Police allowed the vehicle to proceed, and the patrol team continued its duties without further incident.
The Command said it was therefore surprised to see what it described as “maliciously crafted tales,” including claims of an assassination attempt circulating online.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, urged residents to always cooperate with security operatives and refrain from spreading unverified information that could trigger unnecessary tension.
