The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Genesis Yaryok Sunday, for allegedly kidnapping a six-year-old boy in Sabon-Wuse, Tafa LGA and attempted to demand a ransom from the victim’s mother.
According to the police, the child was reported missing on January 29, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m. Fortunately, he was found the following day at Jere, Kagarko LGA, Kaduna State, and taken to the nearest police station before being handed over to Tafa Division in Niger State.
Investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, who confessed to abducting the child and kept him at Idah along Kaduna Road. He admitted that he intended to demand a ₦200,000 ransom from the victim’s mother to clear some debts. The suspect has been transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
In another disturbing case, a 20-year-old man, Lukman Aliyu, was arrested for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl in Ibeto, under Nasko Division.
The victim returned home from school on January 29, 2025, with bloodstains on her body, prompted concerns from her family. She later revealed that the suspect lured her into a nearby bush and assaulted her.
The suspect was arrested and confessed to the crime. The victim is receiving medical care at General Hospital, Nasko, while the suspect has been transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
On February 5, 2025, at about 11:25 a.m., two suspected phone snatchers were arrested by a mob at Hayin-Gwari, Bosso.
The suspects, Mohammed Sani and Mohammed Adamu, allegedly stole a victim’s phone while he was on a tricycle ride. The victim later tracked the stolen phone and located the suspects, leading to their arrest.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted that they had been involved in multiple phone thefts in both Kaduna and Niger States. They will soon be charged to court.
Also, on February 5, 2025, at about 10:30 p.m., three armed robbery suspects were arrested in New Market area, Kontagora, after allegedly robbing victims of their mobile phones and valuables.
The suspects—Albani Nasiru (25), Zaharadeen Abubakar (25), and Abubakar Yakubu (20) were found in possession of a cutlass, four knives, a pair of scissors, a catapult, and four stolen handsets.
They will soon be arraigned in court.
Meanwhile, on February 5, 2025, at about 8:30 p.m., a police patrol team in Tunga, Minna, intercepted a tricycle carrying two individuals in possession of a long sharp knife and two wraps of cannabis.
The suspects, Aliyu Abubakar (25) and Mariam Abdullahi (22), both of Bosso area, Minna, are under investigation and will soon be prosecuted.
The Niger State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and crime reduction in the state. The Commissioner of Police , CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
