The Niger State Government has called on construction firms handling road and infrastructure projects across the state to improve public notification systems on road diversions and temporary blockages in order to ease traffic congestion and reduce inconvenience to motorists.
The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Obed Nuhu Nana, made the appeal while speaking on the impact of ongoing construction activities within Minna metropolis and other parts of the state.
According to the Commissioner, timely dissemination of information and proper placement of directional signs at construction sites would go a long way in helping road users navigate affected routes with ease.
Mr. Nana commended Governor Umar Mohammed Bago for what he described as a deliberate and visionary infrastructural transformation agenda under the New Niger initiative, noting that the state capital is already experiencing massive development.
He highlighted some of the ongoing projects to include modern road construction, overhead bridges, underpasses, remodeling of the state secretariat, installation of digital streetlights, and other landmark infrastructure spread across the state.
The Commissioner acknowledged that although the projects may temporarily disrupt vehicular movement in certain areas, the long-term benefits to residents and the overall development of the state would be significant.
He assured residents that the Ministry of Information and Orientation would engage relevant authorities to ensure that construction companies maintain effective communication with the public on road closures and alternative routes throughout the duration of their projects.
Mr. Nana also appealed to residents and motorists to remain patient, cooperative, and supportive as the government intensifies efforts to improve infrastructure and ensure smoother vehicular movement across the state.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the infrastructural development drive and the broader transformation agenda of the Bago administration.
