The Niger State Police Command has arrested the prime suspect involved in the alleged murder of Mohammed Amore, a vigilante member, who was killed during a botched arrest operation at Angwan-Maiturare via Fadikpe, Minna.
Amore was reportedly stabbed to death on April 20, 2025, at about 10:45 p.m., while attempting to apprehend a group of suspected miscreants along with other vigilante members. The assailant fled the scene after the fatal attack.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the police operatives attached to GRA Division arrested the suspect, Nura Abdurahman, 23, on April 22 at about 10:00 p.m. Nura, a chocolate seller at Kure Market and resident of Fadikpe, hails from Katsina State. He confessed to stabbing the deceased with a shoemaker’s needle in an attempt to evade arrest, revealing that he was with two others—Abdullahi Rabiu and one Buhari (currently at large) smoking cannabis by the riverside when the vigilante team arrived.
Abdullahi Rabiu, 25, a wheelbarrow shoe vendor from the same market and neighborhood, had earlier been arrested in connection with the crime.
According to the police, Nura fled to Abuja after the incident but was eventually arrested with the cooperation of community members and his relatives.
Both suspects are currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
In a related development, fifteen suspected miscreants were arrested in a sting operation carried out in Shango and its environs in Chanchaga area of Minna.
The operation, conducted on April 21, 2025, at about 1:45 a.m., was led by the Area Commander Minna in collaboration with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Chanchaga Division. The police recovered several dangerous weapons including two cutlasses, one sickle, one knife, one scissors, six sticks, cannabis, and other illicit drugs.
Meanwhile,the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to eradicating thuggery and criminality in Minna metropolis in line with the vision of the “New Niger” initiative.
All suspects will be prosecuted accordingly upon completion of investigation.
