Niger Police Nab Car Theft Suspects, Recover Stolen Vehicles, Foil Robbery in Multiple Crime Crackdown

The Niger State Police Command has recorded a series of major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against crime, including the arrest of suspected car thieves, vandals, and a suspected drug dealer, as well as the recovery of stolen vehicles, vandalised cables and a locally made pistol.

In one of the major operations, police operatives attached to the State Intelligence Department arrested two suspects linked to a car theft syndicate and recovered two vehicles, including a Honda CRV and a Toyota Corolla believed to be stolen. The suspects were alleged to have been involved in attempts to dispose of the stolen vehicles in Niger State, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.

In a separate operation, three suspects were arrested over alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, vandalism and theft linked to the destruction of transformers and the theft of transformer oil valued at over one million naira. The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Similarly, police operatives intercepted three other suspects along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway with vandalised armoured cables suspected to belong to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC). Exhibits including tools allegedly used for vandalism were recovered, while the suspects are expected to face prosecution.

The Command also foiled an armed robbery attempt in Minna, where suspected robbers fled after meeting resistance from a victim, abandoning a locally made pistol, a cutlass, a flashlight and other items at the scene. Police said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

In another development, a 28-year-old woman was arrested in Kontagora with a bag containing suspected cannabis. Police said the suspect confessed during investigation and has been charged to court, while efforts continue to identify and arrest her suppliers.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the achievements reflect the Command’s sustained commitment under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Adamu Abdullahi Elleman to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
