The Niger State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state with the rescue of a kidnapped victim from Sokoto and four others abducted in Munya Local Government Area.
According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, operatives of 12PMF stationed at Mararaban Dan-daudu on Thursday, 22nd May 2025, at about 11:00am, discovered a young man, Mubarak Iliya, 23, wandering in the forest. He was taken to Gwada Division, where it was confirmed that he had escaped from kidnappers.
The victim recounted that he and his father, Iliya Daddi, both of Gatawa village in Sabon-Birni LGA, Sokoto State, were abducted during a violent invasion by armed men in April during Ramadan. While being transported by the kidnappers, Mubarak heard a gunshot and saw his father fall, suspecting he had been killed.
Mubarak said he managed to escape from captivity and survived alone in the forest for eight days before encountering the police operatives. He has since been taken to hospital for medical care, and efforts to contact his family are ongoing. An investigation into the incident is in progress.
In a related development, the Command also confirmed the rescue of four kidnapped victims Deborah Daina, Gambo Amos, Cyprus Titus, and Satti Iko who were abducted on 20th February 2025 during a night raid on Hayin-Dogo and Dangunu villages in Sarkin-Pawa, Munya LGA. One other victim, Usman Daina, had earlier regained freedom two days after the abduction.
The rescue was made possible following intense clearance operations by a joint security team. The victims, who managed to escape due to sustained pressure on the kidnappers, have been reunited with their families after receiving medical attention.
Commending the efforts of the operatives, CP Elleman reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assured residents of continuous efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
