The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned the killing of Mali’s Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Lieutenant General Sadio Camara, describing the incident as tragic and deeply troubling.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, conveyed Nigeria’s profound sympathy to the bereaved family, the Malian Armed Forces, and the government and people of Mali following the fatal terrorist attacks of April 25, 2025.
He noted that the loss comes at a critical moment in Mali’s history, stressed that such acts of violence highlight the fragility of human life while reinforcing the need for unity among nations. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with Mali, underscoring the enduring ties of brotherhood, shared destiny, and collective resilience across Africa.
Nigeria also condemned recent terrorist attacks in Mali that have led to the loss of lives and destruction of property, describing them as cowardly acts capable of undermining national stability and the shared values of peace, dignity, and coexistence.
Reiterating that terrorism remains a common enemy, the Federal Government called for stronger cooperation and a unified global response to effectively combat the threat in all its forms.
The statement further reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for Mali in its efforts to protect its sovereignty, maintain territorial integrity, and restore lasting peace and security. It added that Nigeria remains committed to collaborating with regional and international partners to tackle terrorism and promote stability across the Sahel and the wider West African sub-region.
At this moment of grief, Nigeria urged nations to strengthen solidarity, guided by mutual respect and collective security, emphasizing that global peace is interconnected and must be jointly protected.
